Searching: Instructions/Examples

You can use the booleans "and, " "or," or "not" in searching (without these booleans, "and" is the default). Evaluation takes place from left to right only, although you can use parentheses to force the order of evaluation.

Example 1:
securities and state or federal This search evaluates the expression from left to right. It will retrieve files containing the words "securities" and "state", as well as files containing the words "securities" and "federal"

Example 2:
securities and (federal or not state) This search will also be evaluated from left to right, although the operation in parentheses will be evaluated as a whole first. It will retrieve files containing the words "securities" and "federal", as well as entries containing the word "securities" that do not also contain the word "state"

Example 3:
not (state or blue sky) and securities This search will retrieve files containing the word "securities" that do not contain either the word "state" or the term "blue sky"

Example 4:
disclos* and dut* This search will retrieve all files containing words beginning with the trunk "disclos" (e.g., disclosure, disclosing, disclose, disclosable, etc.) and "dut" (e.g., duty, duties, dutiful, dutch, etc.)
